The goal: Shifting school start times closer to Mid/High student's biological needs. Data is clear that Middle and High school students perform better (academically and athletically), have better mental and physical health (lower anxiety/depression, obesity and metabolic concerns, hormone imbalance), and lower risk of accidents (such as car crashes and athletic injuries) IF their school start times are more in line with their later circadian biology. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommend a start time NO EARLIER THAN 8:30am. Currently many HCDE mid/high schools start at 7:15, and many more still prior to 8:30. ...

1. Bus Routes (Need to understand current system, and consider a transport consultants to help create strategies 2. Athletic event schedules (Have written Mid/High school coaches re: athletic performance and injury benefit to this shift in hopes of getting their support and insight into addressing foreseen obstacles 3. Parent work schedules/Challenges to drop off: Educate parents on the science (Spanish and English). Brainstorm support ideas (e.g. trusted carpool ideas)
